The Great Galactic War was mankind’s most costly war in all history. It burned across every star in the galaxy as the Terran Empire fought to maintain itself against the Interstellar Confederacy. Early in the war it was uncertain who would emerge victorious; all that was certain was that the nature of man’s existence in space was going to be changed forever. Massive fleets of battleships and seemingly infinite legions of soldiers brutally fought their way from one corner of the galaxy to the other leaving a wake of corpses and floating debris in their trail.
The Neabus Science and Technology Corporation was known as the leader in cutting edge technology throughout the galaxy. They had developed the first faster than light ships that enabled man to leave his solar system; and now were headquartered on a world that had tried to remain neutral throughout the conflict. Roger Neabus, the descendant of the founder of the company, grew increasingly worried about the outcome of the war and had started a secret project to build new weapons and defense technology that would imbue its user with considerable power. At first, he was going to sell the technology to the highest bidder – but he soon realized that the most profitable direction to take would be to wait the war out, and sell to the winner. However, the fighting between the Empire and the Confederacy crept closer and closer to his star system and he decided that to safeguard his future, and the future of his company, he would have to take the next-gen weapons program to another world far from the fighting. All the prototypes, all the schematics, everything to do with his secret program was loaded onto a long-range ship owned by the company called The Delphi, and was sent to the farthest reaches of the galaxy for safe-keeping.
The Delphi’s destination was Sector 80, an empty region of space with only few star systems; all uninhabited. Sector 80 was known as the Undertow because of the spacial distortions that made the sector so dangerous to inhabit. Ships caught in the Undertow Sector were often severely damaged and barely made it out before being destroyed. Sending a mission with the company’s most precious secrets to this region of space was dangerous, but it was the only truly secure place left in all the galaxy. The Delphi launched and made its way to the Undertow Sector; her captain would never learn that 3 days after the launch the war arrived and Neabus’ world was caught in the crossfire; a crossfire that wiped the planet from existence.
The Delphi arrived at its destination in record time, two weeks, and took up orbit around a planet in the farthest of the star systems in the Undertow Sector. The world was blanketed in a strange radiation that drained active power systems very fast, and The Delphi was caught in this radiation and crashed on the surface of the planet.
The war lasted more than 400 years and claimed the lives of countless people. It is now 50 years since the war formally came to an end. The Empire has fallen, and the Confederacy has been torn apart. The politics of the galaxy is now determined by the corporations, its laws enforced by contractors, and its shadows are ruled by vast criminal syndicates. The story of The Delphi are known only to a few who treat it as a fairy tale, and she has been left to her grave on a far away world in a part of space that no one wants to visit; until…
The two largest Criminal Empires in the galaxy are the Red Star Syndicate, and the Yellow Nebula Combine. Both organizations have spent a great deal of resources researching the locations of old Imperial and Confederate crash sites, weapons storage, ammo dumps and other military resources they can use to further their own enterprises. In a stroke of fate, both the Syndicate and the Combine have discovered clues to the location of The Delphi crash site and are aware that even after all this time, the technology on that ship is far more advanced than anything else available today.
Now, both criminal organizations have dispatched their most elite troops to the world in the Undertow Sector to scavenge The Delphi and take its lost technology for themselves. The two factions are aware of the other’s search for this treasure and have both vowed to stop at nothing to take it all for themselves. Now, on this small world in the middle of one of the most dangerous regions in all the galaxy, the two most prolific criminal enterprises mankind has ever known will now face each other in armed conflict. And once again, The Delphi is caught in the middle of a war.
